As I stated in the article with research attached, nearly every demonstration for social justice which has occurred over the last year was peaceful and non-obstructive, which calls into question why this bill was written in the first place. There has simply been no widespread criminal acts during protests, whether within Florida or across the country. The bill was created by conservative think tanks from outside of Florida to be applied to whichever state adopts it in order to throw meat to that state's Republican Party's base.

The bill's subjective language allows law enforcement to determine when a protest has turned "violent" as well as when a protest becomes a "riot." When there are no objective metrics in the law to measure this, it gives law enforcement officials much too broad individual discretion over enforcing the law. As we know over the course of American history, laws like these are disproportionately applied to marginalized communities fighting against injustice in a system rigged against them rather than say, the communities that would have the gall to plan to kidnap a democratically elected governor or stage a coup in Washington.

Take care.
